I began my career over 30 years ago, working with young people navigating the care system, in a residential setting. This taught me first hand the impact of feeling rejected had on our mental wellbeing, and the importance of feeling included in society. I then went onto work with young people leaving the care system, aged from 16 years to 24 years old, assisting and equipping them with the necessary independent living skills for adult life. This taught me that true connection and trust was an integral part of the work.
I then went onto work for Birmingham Children’s Services in the early 2000’s, which gave me a greater understanding of how diversity and difference can impact negatively and positively on our emotional wellbeing. I also worked with families where Domestic Abuse had featured in their lives, and I started to work with Women’s Aid. I now have over 14 years experience working with individuals and their families who have been at risk of significant harm, and understanding the ongoing impact this can have on their lives.
Due to this experience, I have a particular interest in working with people to empower them to know, understand, and unapologetically be their true authentic selves, improving self esteem and confidence in life, dating and relationships.
During my varied career, I have seen first hand how therapy can transform people’s lives, ensuring that any issues or concerns cannot be overcome, and that you can live a full and enjoyable life.
This is where I decided to retrain, and started my Level 2 and 3 in Counselling and then completed my Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I am also Relate trained in couples work.
